


Douglas County Sheriffs Scholarship ProgramSheriff David A. Weaver has established a scholarship fund and will award 10 ($750) scholarships. The scholarship program is broken down into three separate categories.Douglas County Sheriff's Office Scholarship: Eight scholarships, each worth $750, will be awarded to graduating seniors from any Douglas County public high school, accredited private high school, or a qualifying home school. Race-A-Cop Scholarship: One scholarship, each worth $750, will be awarded to a graduating senior from any Douglas County public high school, accredited private high school, or a qualifying home school. This particular scholarship is only applicable to those students who are going to attend a vocational college/program. Deputy Ron King Memorial Scholarship: One scholarship, each worth $750, will be awarded to a graduating senior from any Douglas County public high school, accredited private high school, or a qualifying home school. This $500 award will be given to a teen that demonstrates leadership through community service or has achievements in academics, arts and culture, entrepreneurship, environment, sports and recreation, social action or personal triumph.To be eligible, the applicant must live in Lone Tree at the time of applying, be in 8th through 12th grade, and their qualifying project or accomplishment must have occurred in the 12 months prior to the application being submitted. Youth Leadership Douglas County Accepting ApplicationsYouth Leadership Douglas County is accepting applications from current freshmen (class of 2015) who would like to hone their leadership skills through a two-year program. This program requires students attend a training once a month (transportation is not included) and the classes run September through May. School attendance on these days is excused, but students are responsible for any school work missed. Year one (sophomore year) focuses on knowledge acquisition around leadership skills. Year two students use their training in hands-on activities and working with the sophomores in the program. Students have the opportunity to meet and interact with local government and business leaders.
